About Notimator

The Story

I have been working on this project for a long time. I started by writing my own clients for other notification services, but eventually realized they did not fit my needs.

I built Notimator to solve some of the problems that no single existing solution could handle:

  • Support notifications arriving while offline and displaying them once they come online.
  • Headless handling of notifications required custom scripts if it was even possible.
  • Sending notifications to an Android device was simply not possible.
  • None of them had a native macOS client.

Notimator is born

It was time to build my own solution. It was a challenging task, but I was determined to create a solution that would meet my needs and the needs of others.

I am a veteran software developer with almost 40 years of professional experience writing large-scale high-performance enterprise applications for my long-time employer.

Writing software has been my passion and job and continues to be so. I have written so many apps personally for Linux, macOS, Windows and Android that I have lost count. I have never published any of them. Notimator is the exception since I believe it is a truly useful service that I will enjoy expanding upon and users will hopefully enjoy using.

Currently, the service is in closed beta. I have been using it daily for many months and tweaking things and fixing bugs. There are a few other people involved in the testing, but I am the sole developer.

Since I am the sole developer, I don't want to open it to the public until I am satisfied that it is ready for general release. I want to make sure it is the best it can be, and supporting an in-development project with many users makes testing and managing defects too time-consuming while also managing a day job.

Anyway, there is more work to be done polishing the applications and the back-end. I hope it will see a public opening sometime this year or early next year.

Have a great day!
